This position is for the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Pediatrics -
We are in search of a laboratory technician to join a dedicated team of pediatric researchers. This person will assist with the receipt, processing, testing, and shipping of pediatric respiratory and stool samples for a large active surveillance study of pediatric infections. There will be plentiful opportunities for interactions with the laboratory team, clinical team, and national collaborative efforts for this study. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
• Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, and may perform microsurgical procedures. Ensures conformity to specifications.
• Identifies and prepares specimens.
• Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
• Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
• Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
• Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment.
