Responsibilities
The SUE Field Technician II supports Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects by designating, locating, and documenting underground utilities in both rural and urban environments. This role involves using advanced geophysical and survey equipment, vacuum excavation, and field data collection to ensure accurate and high-quality utility mapping.
Key Responsibilities
Designate all types of utilities using surface geophysical equipment and vacuum excavation methods to expose and document existing utilities.
Serve as the lead on 2-person field teams responsible for 2D QL-B (2DB) and 3D QL-B (3DB) mapping projects.
Collect, interpret, and record data for vault diagram forms, utility pole inventories, and overhead utility mapping.
Utilize VRS and GPR survey equipment to collect horizontal data for QL-B mapping and QL-A test holes.
Lead crews operating vacuum excavators to safely expose utilities at typical depths and conditions, then backfill according to project standards.
Perform level runs using automatic or digital levels to gather QL-A elevation data from exposed utilities.
Implement and maintain approved traffic control plans for all field operations conducted outside of travel lanes.
Coordinate with internal survey crews to ensure accurate data integration and project consistency.
Maintain detailed field notes, sketches, and electronic data logs to support accurate project documentation.
Qualifications
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company MVR standards.
Must pass background check and drug screening.
Willingness to travel frequently and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
Strong work ethic, safety focus, and willingness to learn new skills.
Current safety certifications, with ability to obtain and maintain additional required credentials.
