Position Overview
St. Francis House is seeking an inspiring and mission-driven Executive Director to lead one of East Pierce
County's longest-standing, faith-inclusive nonprofit organizations dedicated to easing hardship and restoring
dignity for those in need. This is a rare opportunity to steward a respected community organization with over 50
years of history, collaborate with a committed Board of Directors, and make a lasting impact in East Pierce
County.
The Executive Director provides visionary leadership and operational oversight to advance the strategic direction
set by the Board. The role includes leadership of staff and volunteers, oversight of programs and fundraising,
and stewardship of organizational resources. The Executive Director serves as the primary face of the
organization in the community and works in close partnership with the Board to ensure the mission is carried
out with integrity, compassion, and efficacy.

About St. Francis House
St. Francis House is a compassion-based organization serving East Pierce County since 1974. We provide food,
clothing, emergency financial assistance, and other resources free of charge to individuals and families in need.
We are inspired by the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, reaching out to the poor, the oppressed, and the immigrant.
The Executive Director is expected to work from an ecumenical and interfaith perspective, supporting the
organization’s mission of compassionate service while fostering partnerships across faith communities and with
the broader community. The Executive director serves as the chief steward of the mission, ensuring that every
program, partnership, fundraising effort and the organizational decision reflects the values of compassion,
dignity, service and hope that have defined St. Francis House for decades.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Board Partnership
- Partner with the Board of Directors to implement strategic direction and long- and short-term goals.
- Lead organizational planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and services.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
Fundraising & Resource Development
- Lead and support fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Board, Director of Development, and staff.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and
community partners. - Ensure diversified and sustainable funding to support current operations and future growth.
Program & Operational Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight for all programs, including the food pantry, clothing bank, emergency
assistance, thrift store (The Nook), and special initiatives. - Ensure high-quality, dignified, and compassionate service delivery aligned with organizational values.
- Oversee daily operations, facilities, and administrative functions to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Financial Management
- Oversee organizational finances in accordance with the Board-approved budget and established
financial policies. - Ensure sound fiscal practices, effective internal controls, and responsible stewardship of organizational
resources. - Work closely with the organization's external CPA firm to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Monitor financial performance and provides timely analysis and recommendations to support
organizational decision-making. - Collaborate with the Treasurer and Finance Committee by preparing and providing all necessary
financial documentation and reports. - Support the development and presentation of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy,
transparency, and clear communication of the organization's financial position. - Assist with annual budgeting, financial planning, audits, and other financial oversight activities as directed by the Board and Finance Committee.
Human Resources & Team Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and lead a team of staff and volunteers.
- Foster a positive, mission-aligned organizational culture.
- Ensure appropriate human resource systems, policies, and compliance with applicable employment
laws.
Community & External Relations
- Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for St. Francis House in the community.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with churches, nonprofits, businesses, and local government.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of five years of senior-level management experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relations, and financial oversight.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a
Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. - Commitment to working from a faith perspective with an ecumenical and interfaith heart.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations.
- This role involves both office work and community-facing activities, occasional evenings/weekends, and
the ability to lift up to 20 lbs on a regular basis.
Preferred
- Experience in a faith-based or values-driven nonprofit organization.
- Significant experience managing volunteers and building community/church partnerships.
- Familiarity with emergency assistance programs, food/clothing distribution, or retail/thrift operations.
- Experience working with diverse, low-income populations.
Employment Status & Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position.
Compensation is $95,000 to $105,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits are
negotiable.
